@mtedeschi this is a request from Karie. thoughts on whether this is something we should do?

Is there a way to get some help with hyperlinking the footnotes in the articles with footnotes. I did anchor links by hand for the Top 20 Questions about Vaccination article, but doing the footnotes is too long and complicated for me. There are about 5 articles in each language with footnotes...see right for an example

@amberreeves if we want to spend some of the remaining budget, how would you feel about doing this?

amberreeves commented 7 years ago

yeah, @mtedeschi i can do it, i just need to know which articles need it. i'll ask karie for a list today.

i entered the footnotes code and made sure everything was consistent on this page: http://ml.historyofvaccines.org/hi/node/654

In the body text (source), the footnote should look like this: (code here!) [1]

Before the corresponding footnote, add this: (code here!)

This just relates the piece of body text to the corresponding footnote below. It does not add a link.

I had to change a lot of the existing code/numbers before the footnotes that Karie had entered because they didn't match the number of the footnote. I saw stuff like this: (code here!)

1. सेंटर्स फॉर डिजीज कंट्रोल एंड प्रिवेंशन (CDC)Ten great public health achievements -- United States, 1900-1999MMWR. Atlanta, GA: सेंटर्स फॉर डिजीज कंट्रोल एंड प्रिवेंशन (CDC); 1999;48 (12):241-243. 31/3/2017 को प्रयुक्त।

Mike is going to write some code so that these are automatically linked up. we'll test this, and run it by Karie.

If it works and she approves it, I will do the clean up on the remaining pages and we'll test/confirm that the linking code works on them as well.

These are the remaining pages that need footnotes - these are the Hindi versions, but all three languages need it.

Update 5/1/17 - Karie approved the first one, so I went through and did all of the ones that I could. Where noted below, I ran into an issue with deleting/adding text in the wysiwyg - when I was cleaning up the footnote/reference code - I'd enter a character or delete an existing character, and it would happen backwards. So maybe something to do with the right to left language stuff, but not sure, since it's only happening on some pages and not others. @mtedeschi can I show you the issue I'm running into and get your thoughts?

Update 5/3/17 - I used a text editor to make changes to the footnotes on the pages that had the deleting issue. All the pages below have working footnotes. I'm going to ask Karie to review and make any improvements she wants on the code on these pages, as some of it is super inconsistent.
