[0.5] D8 & ML - Compressing empty timeline years

Karie asked: We talked a while ago about the possibility of customizing the timeline display so that there's not so much scrolling between the entries for 1721 and 1770, and 1796 and 1879. Do you think this is possible?

We responded: Once all timeline entries are in, we could look into adjusting the length of all time periods (it is currently the same length as the English site), and see whether it works for all the ML sites.

All the timeline entries are in, so let's talk after launch about whether there is anything we can do here.

I've gone through already and adjusted the spacing of the timeline so there is less time between items. That said, it doesn't make a huge difference when there is a single entry at 1721 and then 1770 and then 1879, but then 30+ entries all between 1890 and 1990.

What we can do:

• Further tighten up the timeline so there is less space between items, but will result in some more stacking of items on the timeline requiring vertical scrolling

What we can't do (because its what we quoted as a separate budget):

• Compress periods of time based on the number of items
