This subdomain was created before our time so we don't know where/how it's set up. We could look at the DNS and either delete or redirect the subdomain so it points to the hov.org site. I've asked Karie to ask someone on her team to look into it first, and if they can't help her, she'll let me know.
karie said she'll look into it
@mtedeschi can you take a look at this?
From Karie The DNS zone file for historyofvaccines.org is managed via MediaTemple. Blog.historyofvaccines.org isn’t registered anywhere or listed as a subdomain – I think the wildcard *.historyofvaccines.org in the Media-temple managed DNS zone file is what is causing this to happen. I’m looking for a way to send any non-defined subdomain to the main domain but I don’t see where to do that (or where to manage any redirects for that matter! The help files on MediaTemple show options I don’t have). I don’t know if sending non-defined subdomains to the main one would interfere with a subdomain like media.historyofvaccines.org so I’m a little afraid to do anything. What do you think?
I'm going to have to get MediaTemple support on this.
I have confirmed that their DNS provider (moniker) doesn't have record of the subdomain. It appears that any subdomain (blog, alpha, test, whatever) still works. It sounds like it is connected to the way the domain is set up and directing. I'm also not 100% sure where and why this is happening, so I put in a support request and I'll let you know when I hear more.
Okay, removed the wildcard DNS info and it should take 24-48 hours to propagate.
Tested, this is not yet working. Reopening the post with MediaTemple.
Karie pointed out that users are tweeting out the following URL:
https://blog.historyofvaccines.org/content/articles/us-military-and-vaccine-history
When I go to that URL and click to another page (any link in the main nav, the home page, etc), I stay in the blog.hov.org subdomain/URL.
For example, when i go to the link Karie sent over above, then click on the HOV logo to go to the home page, I end up here:
