[x] Annotator: aspect ratio issue #730

Open amberreeves opened 6 years ago

From Laurie The aspect ratio issue crops up from time to time. Is there any additional control that can applied to the code to force this or to warn users that the ratio needs to be reset?

I honestly don't know what this means - Amber

@mtedeschi here are a bunch of screenshots and notes around this. Deanna says, Regarding the Resource Annotator aspect ratio, the Education team put together a few screenshots (see link below) trying to replicate the issue. They are not sure what particular device this issue happened on, but I believe it happened on a tablet device. To note, the screenshots were taken on a desktop computer and purposefully increasing the ratio to try and replicate what was seen on the tablet/small laptop device. Let me know if it would be easier to discuss this particular issue further by phone.

The samples that were shared were useful, but also seem a little unrealistic. For instance, we did not say in our contract that we would test for all responsive arrangements at various zoom levels, but they're showing the browser at 200% zoom and it doesn't look great. I'm going to time box this to two hours and make improvements where possible to address some of the specific concerns, and then I'll update again with what has changed.

First thing to note is that it was really hard to solve some of these issues with more specific details on browser window size—they were all over the place in the Dropbox presentation, so it was almost impossible for me to recreate what they saw on their screen. I did the best I can, but I can allocate more time to this if they can provide more detailed information.

I'm attaching some images of the improvements I made:

screen shot 2018-07-17 at 2 23 43 pm Image 1: 150% at the squashed view, reduced the amount of information down on this screen and prevented overlapping content.

screen shot 2018-07-17 at 3 12 52 pm screen shot 2018-07-17 at 3 15 29 pm Image 2-3: 150% at the full width view, reduced the height and consolidated a few things to make these two views fit better, and prevented the footer from overlapping.

We've made some adjustments with the information we have, so you can retest on the dev site. We could put a bit more time into refining this under warranty, but we would need more detailed info about the exact browser sizes and zoom levels - we couldn't replicate what you were seeing past 150% zoom. We can't promise that we can fix all of it though, this is a complicated interface and it's built to be responsive, but making it responsive to specific zoom levels was not part of our original scope.
