Online Nomination Process #1

From Board Member Doug Jenkins:

After signing a bunch of nomination forms this year, I wondered if there may not be an easier way. I envision something like this...

  1. Candidate logs in to website using credentials that verify who they are. They navigate to page/button that says "I want to appear on the ballot" and fill out a form that collects the same information that's on the paper form.
  2. Once the application is validated the website creates an online "petition" that requires 10 "yes votes" or acknowledgements on an "elections" page.
  3. Candidate tells their friends they are running and they can support their petition on the IAC elections page (or something similar).
  4. IAC members log on using their credentials to verify who they are. They then click "I support this petition" (or other similar words) on their candidate(s) petition on the elections page.
  5. Once petition reaches 10 supporters it moves to the "Candidate's name will appear on ballot" column vs. the "Awaiting 10 supporters" column.

This is the current form: https://www.iac.org/system/files/Fm-IAC%20Nomination%202023_0.pdf.

Note that most of the info about the potential nominee are already in the IAC member records.

Per Tom Myers, we should make sure that only current members can create or e-sign a nominating petition.
