In general I'm a fan of these things but you do need to set up governance mechanisms in place to deal with violations of code of conducts. Depending on funding and institutional requirements, this might mean running it past one (or more) HR departments.
The project might want to add a code of conduct and license to the repository.

Hello to the core team. During a mini-hackathon this morning, we brought this up and I decided to find something that would be suitable for us. I started by reading the Contributor Covenant, which is widely used by community-based coding and data projects. I find it well written, and it is adaptable to fit our needs where we would want to add/remove language. There is the added benefit of its wide-spread use, in that people may know what to expect if they're familiar with similar communities that follow Contributor Covenant.
Let me know what you think. We can even add it as a badge on our GitHub home page.
