For each course topic it would have been nice to be provided an existing & published research paper using that technique. This would serve as a applicable example of specific research questions. Every new dataset starts with exploration and summarization, but it would be nice to see more of what it all builds to. Maybe 2 - 4 such research examples over the course of the semester.

George Wittemyer did this very well in ECOL 592 Movement Ecology and Analysis of Tracking Data in Fall 2021
