Weapons Officers manning guns when they shouldn't, manning wrong consoles when they should #144

Open Greeba77 opened 1 year ago

Greeba77 commented 1 year ago

Description

These railguns are auto-loaded by SRAs and a track loop, and the guns are being manned by a Weapons Officer on a Weapons Console (as indicated by the tooltip). So what are these two regular crew doing? They should be doing other jobs round the ship.

image

Unless there are no other jobs, so the crew man the guns anyway? But that seems inefficient, as they should be wondering nearer the stuff they ought to be doing, like loading ammo and fuel when needed.

Flavour affected

Steam

Operating System

Windows

Version

Alpha 6

Is it something that used to work before?

No, this is a new A6 feature

Expected behavior

Crew should not man guns which are already manned by remote.

Actual behavior

Crew are manning guns which are already manned by remote.

Repro steps

Enter Battle Stations with enough crew and all guns manned via Weapons Consoles.

Would you happen to have a save file for this situation? There's 2 possibilities here. 1 it's a bug I need to fix. Or 2 it's intended behaviour that when the weapons console goes offline if for example it loses power, crew will run over to man the guns directly, but the weapons stay connected to the console so that when power returns the console takes over and crew can leave to do other stuff. In which case the tool tip is a bit misleading and I can update it to say connected but not controlled. If you have a save it'd be great so I can investigate

Had a go, this battle was over when I saw an example and saved it so you'll need to be quick to catch it if at all. Will keep trying. Don't think there was any loss of power. It may be something to do with them manning the guns when the enemies are all defeated?

I cant find the example you are talking about in that save. I checked out the weapons in the above picture and they seemed to be working as intended. If Im looking in the wrong place or you find another example please let me know

Thanks. I never managed to reproduce this , so I agree it’s not worth pursuing until someone does. I I’ve got more and more weapons consoles in my fleet since I posted this and the guns seem to stay unmanned.

It's time to revisit Weppo behaviour. While I've not been able to recreate the above (though I swear it happened), here's another erroneous behaviour that I've caught on camera/ savegame this time:

The top-right Weppo is manning a console with no guns connected, during Battle Stations. Meanwhile the bottom-right console does have 4 guns connected, but he's not manning it. I'm not sure if this is merely visual or if the guns are dormant.
