Shelves for storage? #159

Description

Hi,

what about the possibility to install shelves to store more items in the same place? Nearly all items are half the height of the ships. image And maybe the shelves can be researched and then build by oneself?

Best wishes

I'd love to see this implemented. I've had terrible resource sprawl on every ship. And if the shelves could sort of act like buffers for robot arms loading/unloading tracks, that would also be very helpful.

And if you put one row of shelves in front of another?

I think at some point you just make allowances that this is a 2D game.

RimWorld is also 2D and has shelves.

But, OK, on a more fundamental level, the problem is that we have tons of stuff all over the floor. Do you have a suggestion for storing stuff better/deeper?

In one of Prison Architect's DLCs (Paradox) they added a storage shelf which is 2x3 and allows workers to walk past it. Perhaps something similar could happen here?

Another possibility is to just have crates and stack the objects on top of each other.

I would prefer some 'shipping containers' instead. The problem with storage is not only that it takes so much space but also that deliveries can be troublesome, industrial solution to that is a shipping container - instead of sending items one at a time, you send a whole container.

Or if containers aren't an option, then just stacking, logistical rails in particular should be stackable, you need lots of those, they are compact once installed, yet for some reason take a full tile when packed. Ideally also needs automated cranes instead of arms (game has a lot less space than factorio, input varies greatly, so those logistic arms should be a lot more flexible to compensate, not less)

That's good idea - having a bunch of objects in perhaps a 3x1 area.

I think the way to more storage doesn't matter, it must fit to all other in the ships. But more storage is needed.
