Logistics transfers aren't adding up (Alpha 10) #299

Closed enigmafyv closed 2 months ago

enigmafyv commented 3 months ago

Description

When transferring objects between 3 or more ships, you begin to build a surplus or deficit of resources that can seemingly transfer the + or - numbers to another ship, not necessarily the objects but the + or - counts. Need a way to zero out the counts to start over.

Flavour affected

Steam

Operating System

Windows

Version

Alpha 9

Is it something that used to work before?

Unknown

Expected behavior

The numbers need to be able to zero out and I'd like a way to click a Zero or Reset button in logistics to set everything back to 0 so I can clear up the transfer numbers between ships. I'd be nice if the zero can be per ships in the current sector and ships across all sectors.

Actual behavior

I start a +/- between two ships, and then I can transfer that + or - to another ship, throwing my numbers off, and subsequently because I have a queue, I can't use the resources in machines. So there's a point where I might have surplus that doesn't seem to match up with a deficit. Maybe the paring has to do with one of my other ships in a different sector now that I think of it.

Repro steps

Add more resources than what are available, then move to another ship and move more of those resources to another ship and you seemingly begin to transfer surplus / deficit numbers that don't exist.

Are you saying that the amounts of goods are being distorted? Or just that that plus and minus targets are getting fragmented as ships come and go from the systems? If the latter then yes, this has been a problem forever, e.g. a good will have a target of -55 but no destination ships with the + number to match. Each row's movement targets should add up, and this isn't reckoned often enough.

After looking harder at where the numbers were, it does appear they all balancing out. I had so many transactions queued that things were getting difficult to track. After clearing all of them, the numbers zeroed out. It would still be nice to hit a reset button to clear all transactions or allow the buttons to be held so they'll continue to increment while holding, or both. This game is super click heavy so any way this can be mitigated would be a nice QOL add on. As for this one, I guess it's not a real problem, just a perceived tracking difficulty.

I'm going to close this issue down for now as it's no longer a bug. We are taking the QOL on board for the logistics window and have a small improvement to help cancel orders more quickly for Alpha 11 in response to this. If you have any other ideas there is issue #197 which suggests standing orders, or open a new feature request.
