I think there should be a hail notifying the player of this so they don’t suddenly get attacked without knowing to show that they’ll come back just to be certain the player knows.

Zorbane's addition: I agree wiht the hailing/warning before getting attacked maybe even after each stage have something about other "Factions" not being happy, so the player isn't completely blindsided when they get a hail that says "faction xyz has had enough of your stargate and is sending ships to attack you!"

There could be story elements here too. Like a Wrath of Khan style “you killed my beloved” kind of vendetta thing.
