Reflect stage banner progress indicator #1924

think this is still important. there was a question in QA about if it's clear when a person is done with a lesson, i think this banner could help!

stenington commented 5 years ago

How about some sort of indicator on each page that shows whether they have or haven't done what we want them to do? I feel like some sort of progress indicator on each page might be more helpful to the user than hitting reflect and being told "wait no go back and do X", "ok wait now go back and do Y", etc.

stenington commented 5 years ago

I guess I can also imagine like a "what you did in this lesson" section of the reflect page that shows whether they've actually uploaded the stuff we want or not, which might give them a nudge to actually go do it. My gut tells me a banner that may or may not show up (and might have different messages depending on state) will be easier for a user to overlook. Something like a checklist more clearly communicates "these are things you should definitely do" to me, although I don't have a lot of experience watching families or anything.

rsgonzal commented 5 years ago

i like both of these ideas! We should explore these next meeting

Two things for me to look in to:

rachwyatt commented 5 years ago

@stenington were you already looking into this and have anything to pass on or should i start doing the initial digging in? i have some ideas on how to get started, but I also need to get some lessons locally. I can't remember how to do that.

stenington commented 5 years ago

You can start to look at it if you want. The lesson pages use Vue here and there which we haven't talked about, but I'm not sure if that would come in to play for this feature.

We don't have any lesson fixtures so you can just create fake lessons yourself for now. Or you can take some time to create the fixtures.

rachwyatt commented 5 years ago

@rsgonzal can you tell me if this is right? Is a tab considered complete based on whether or not the tab has been visited for start, inspiration, plan, and further learning? and build test redesign needs text entered and reflect needs the quiz taken?

@stenington is there an easy way of checking whether or not a page has been visited that way i can set the tab status to either not started, started or completed for pages that just need to have been visited?

stenington commented 5 years ago

@rachwyatt Nope, building the mechanism that records tab visits would be part of this ticket. Right now we don't have a way of knowing.

rsgonzal commented 5 years ago

hey @rachwyatt ! think we talked about this in the meeting, do you need any other clarification?

rachwyatt commented 5 years ago

@rsgonzal I think i'm good now. Thanks for checking!

rachwyatt commented 5 years ago

@stenington I'm having some problems on this with a build fail. I have it mostly working. The only thing I don't like is the way I have it set up, if they submit a comment in build or take the quiz in reflect, they have to click off the page or refresh before it will say that tab is complete.

I'm going to make a couple tickets for some of the other aspects of this ticket to split it up. I have the checklist on the side for this ticket. I'm going to make at least one other for the numbers and modals.

rachwyatt commented 5 years ago

On second thought, I'm going to keep these together. And I don't know why this closed, I must have hit the wrong button.

hellafitz commented 5 years ago

@rachwyatt Can you update if there's work you could do on this, or is it blocked?

rachwyatt commented 5 years ago

@hellafitz this was one I worked on a while ago, but quickly discovered I will need to learn Vue to fully implement this feature. It got put back in the backlog due to low priority and the amount of time I was going to have to spend on it since I don't know Vue yet. But I'm going to need to learn Vue at some point, so sometime when the season two "need" stuff is caught up, I can go back to this.

hellafitz commented 4 years ago

@stenington can you take a look at this and see if you'd have what you need to move forward?

stenington commented 4 years ago

@hellafitz The sketches referenced here have all gone missing, so no, I don't remember this one clearly enough to work on it.

hellafitz commented 4 years ago

@rsgonzal to check with Ruby about whether the images may be backed up somewhere
