Future reference, just put the file in a zip archive
Late reply, but you're not really supposed to try to kill it mid-process (as you've discovered). Windows' file system can be fragile. I do still plan to add a pause/cancel feature at some point but they're really finicky (e.g. should the compression be rolled back after cancelling, or leave half the files compressed?)
If the game is still functioning fine and it's just CompactGUI that's broken, just open this folder:
%IridiumIO%\CompactGUI
and delete watchers.json as that's what's probably broken. If it still doesn't launch, just delete everything in that folder.
I uncompressed a game's folder and changed my mind due to it being very slow (16k option), so I wanted to close it but my computer was frozen, ctrl+shift+esc and ctrl+alt+del didn't work, so I restarted my computer using the physical restart button.
Since restarting, CompactGUI no longer works, it generates a crash dump every time I try to launch it in AppData>Local>CrashDumps.
GitHub doesn't support attaching DMP files, so I uploaded it to WeTransfer: https://we.tl/t-MfwzaOs6Ab Edit: Added crash dump in zip CompactGUI crash dump.zip
