The above is one of the user stories found in the Developer Guide. The user story where a user would like to set his budget does not seem to match with the uer's reasoning as setting a budget does not allow a user to plan his budget, nor does the app seem to achieve that goal upon setting a budget.

Team's Response

"setting a budget does not allow a user to plan his budget" this is because by setting a budget, the users would know that what is the limit which can help him to plan how much he can spend before exceeding the limit. This can help him better plan his budget.

 Issue response

Team chose [response.Rejected]

Reason for disagreement: Thank you for responding to this issue.

Unfortunately I will have to disagree with the logic of the response.

Firstly, I would like to implore the team to read the user story again as there seems to be a misundering between the user story raised in the issue and the user story explained in the issue response. The user story raised in the issue was not: “setting a budget allows a user to plan his budget”, but rather : "setting a budget allows a user to plan his expenses". It is important to understand that there is a subtle but significant different between the two. Planning a budget is self explanatory and has been explained in the team's response, but planning expenses requires a user to not only budget his spending, but also clearly plan out how much is going into every expense, such as transportation, education, food, etc.

Such planning is not a result of setting a budget. Setting a budget, should a person follow it, merely restricts how much spending can be done in a certain period. For example: If I set a budget of $5000 a month, I can still choose to blow it all away in the first week and starve for the rest, or I can choose to divide it amongst the ~30 days. There is no clear plan following the setting of a budget. However, "planning his expenses" implies that there is a clear course of action, which simply setting a budget fails to do.

Therefore, setting a budget does not result in one planning their expenses. A more suitable user story would be "As a user, I would like to set a budget, so that I could restrict my spending".

WIth all that said, I believe that the rejection of the issue is unjustified and should be reconsidered.
