What happens at a release, outside of the code tags? This is maybe internal documentation, but...

do we make an announcement to the community? How?
Where are release notes?
Who updates the sandboxes? (future.islandora.ca, the OVA, the base box, and the 'make demo')

Finally,

What are the policies for releasing individual components (rather than the whole thing at once?)

My $0.02 is we should just do that instead of releasing this one giant thing. Since it isn't one giant thing, but many little things maintained by disparate people/interests.

Oh the things I can say now that I'm not tech lead.

For me, this would get folded into a bigger piece of documentation, something like "How to Community Sprint" - at one point pre-Danny I think we had this documentation, but I don't know what happened to it. Each sprint would end in a release, and the contributors of the release would figure out which components were being meaningfully changed in the release, and how the sandboxes and whatever deployment thing(s) gets updated.
