Applied this patch. Still not sure why this is needed and might be a dirty fix 
to another problem.

Java version works fine without this patch.

maybe hava had this fixed in other place indeed, but on our side of it, we have 
no way of knowing where things went wrong, until it causes RTE somewhere. since 
original authors do not support other languages, there's noone to come up with 
proper fix.
