Pressing escape goes too far back when in Menu

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open People app.  Click Menu (on phone or F2 on wifikeyboard)
2. Press Escape on wifikeyboard
3. Notice how People closes instead of just closing the menu.
4. Open People app again, press menu, and then press the back key on the phone 
itself.
5. Notice how it only closes the menu.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Using the escape button on wifikeyboard should only close the menu, not go back 
an extra screen past the menu.  If in handcent, and menu is open, pressing 
escape will bring you back to the contact list.  It always brings you back a 
screen instead of just closing the menu.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Incredible, rooted, Froyo (2.2), HTC Sense

It is reproducible on Nexus One Froyo. I believe it is the problem with the 
Android OS implementation. Pressing Menu again makes it disappear. I see no way 
I can fix it on my side. Even navigation inside menu doesn't works for me.
