each file is in a separate commit to allow easier cherry-picking. Feel free to squash.
do not close related issues as there are still missing components in the repo - membership and driver registry

Yeah, too bad this is confounded with the bold/h2 translation. I think we need to selectively apply the bold to h2 translation, hopefully then the merge will be painless.
