I agree that this would be a useful feature, altitude tracking with the GPS
isn't accurate enough.

Any update on this? Apparently there are now third party apps that use the
pressure sensor to record altitude change. Surely MyTracks should support this
too?

Assumed that MyTracks would use the Barometer in my new Galaxy Nexus but after
one ride I can see that's not the case. I've really been looking forward to
getting correct elevation data and it's unfortunate that the app ignores the
more accurate sensor on my phone. Does anyone know if there are technical
limitations that prevent the use of the Barometer in MyTracks?

Also, the Sony article link is currently broken but appears to be hosted here
as well:

This would be a really good addition to MyTracks, and as an Xperia Active user
i welcome it (if it is going to be added).
Are there any updates on adding this to MyTracks?

There would of course be the typical limitations of using a barometer. I'd like
to see the feature added. The developers would have decide how they want to
handle calibration. I think there are a few different approaches you could
take. I'd be fine with setting an arbitrary starting elevation. I'd still have
issues if the weather were changing though.

I think barometer and gps altimeter should stabilize each other. Like if GPS
shows 10m altitude change but barometer shows no change (and barometer is
accurate enough) of atmospheric pressure which one you believe.
Other phone sensors could be used to correct log data as well like in 3d IMU
projects:

In My Tracks 2.0.5, we will use the new location provider which will take input
from the barometric sensor.
