The regions in the Pokemon world are all mainly based from different parts of Japan. With each Pokemon in Kanto, their types are associated with the area both in the game and real world. Maybe we can use both maps that i found to be able to link them all to each separate spots. I don't know if im right about the gens but maybe use the weather also since weather affects the ability of each Pokemon. I'm not to sure if it was gen 2 or 3 that they did weather attributes but thats a nice idea to add in also.

@JAG240 @achen298 This looks like a promising research inquiry that will help you to correlate your coded data with population info from the real world. I think we may be able to use this in an upcoming map data exercise working with Open Street Maps that I'm developing for our class, basically to let you take a list of real-world place names and query the Open Street Maps API to retrieve population information...Watch for more on this soon!
In the Pokemon games there is always this idea that people and Pokemon live alongside one another in harmony. Its always assumed that Pokemon and people have had a generally good relationship and often work together. However, if we look at the information we've gathered about where the Pokemon are in relation to cities, towns and landmarks (possibly in relation to the real world as well) that are heavily populated, is that still the case? Do Pokemon and people actually live alongside each other? Or do Pokemon avoid people in an attempt to not be caught and forced into battles?
This is one proposed research question for this project.
@achen298 I invite you to add some research questions of your own. @ebeshero I would appreciate any guidance you could provide to help us get a meaningful research question.
