JATS4R is being overhauled and there is a move away from Github. The repo has been inactive for some time. The focus will be on the website (not interactive enough yet) and our google folder. Can I ask you all - will we loose you by not using GitHub?

Hi there
After nearly 3 years, JATS4R has support and representation from a large number of publishers and other parties involved in the publication process and the production of XML.
However, like most voluntary organisations, we struggle with continued commitment and time resource allocation from our members.
Therefore, further to feedback at JATScon in April 2017, we’ve decided to make some changes to galvanise our active participation and allow the extended JATS4R team to move more quickly on recommendations, and gain wider input. To do this, we are restructuring JATS4R by introducing a Steering Committee. We’re also forming short-term specialised sub-groups to develop recommendations, with the aim of enabling more people to selectively participate in developing recommendations that are specifically of interest to them.
Specialised Sub-groups
Further to the results of the JATS4R survey at JATScon, JATS4R will organise a number of sub-groups to work simultaneously:
Author affiliations
Conflict of Interest statements
Reference styles - subdivisions for different types eg software/data citations
Keywords and/or Subjects
Clinical Trial Data
The subgroups will be chaired and the chair will organise calls, minutes, actions and documentation. These calls will be organised to best suit the members of the group, which will be small and focussed.
If you are interested in being a member of one or more of these subgroups please contact m.harrison@elifesciences.org.
Steering Committee
The responsibilities of the steering committee are as follows:
Attend a weekly call
Shape the Roadmap direction based on community feedback
Shape the standard requirements of the recommendations
Review recommendations from (sub groups - more below)
Host/lead/Manage subgroups
Manage the website and twitter channel
Contribute to ideas and be actively involved in implementing them
The Steering Committee is currently composed of:
Mike Eden (technical lead and Operations Manager at Cambridge University Press)
Melissa Harrison (JATS4R Chair and Head of Production Operations at eLife)
Kelly McDougall (JATS Standing Committee and Digital Products Coordinator, MIT Press)
Mary Seligy (JATS4R website administrator and Business Analyst, Canadian Science Publishing)
Lucie Senn (long time member of the group and Production Manager at Frontiers)
This committee is seeking further membership. Please email m.harrison@elifesciences.org if you are interested in joining.
We will disband the regular JATS4R calls until July, when they will be re-introduced on a monthly basis. Please email m.harrison@elifesciences.org if you are interested in joining these monthly calls (the current call invite list will not be reinvited)
During this time, the Steering Committee will be working hard generating standards and guidelines for sub groups, the roadmap, versioning standardisations and managing the validator tools via committed technical resource at CUP and eLife.
We will be seeking membership to subgroups, which will be short lived but focussed groups tackling one specific issue. These will be chaired by a member of the Steering Committee or another person willing to take this role.
