@Melissa37 , what label(s) should this get? Does it fit under "Contribution (roles)" in our prioritization list?

Melissa37 commented 9 years ago

Yep, I think that's the best place for it.

A note from CRediT: An individual contributor may be assigned multiple roles, and a given role may be assigned to multiple contributors. When there are multiple people serving in the same role, a degree of contribution may optionally be specified as ‘lead’, ‘equal’, or ‘supporting’. It is recommended that corresponding authors assume responsibility for role assignment, and that all contributors be given the opportunity to review and confirm assigned roles.

... but we don't have specific recommendations on this yet and are steering early adopters to focus on the role tagging itself. The tags can be used in textual contribution statements, as for example in the recent Learned Publishing paper on the taxonomy...

The first author named is lead and corresponding author. All other authors are listed in alphabetical order. We describe contributions to the paper using the taxonomy provided above. Writing – Original Draft: A.B. and M.A.; Writing – Review & Editing: M.A., A.B., and M.H.; Conceptualization: L.A. and A.B.; Investigation: L.A., A.B., M.A., and M.H.; Methodology: M.A. and J.S.; Formal Analysis: M.A. and J.S.; Project Administration: L.A. and A.B.; Funding Acquisition: L.A. and A.B...

but our goal is ultimately to have the tags collected on article submission as additional metadata deposited by publishers to CrossRef in association with DOI registration - think "contribref" along the lines of "fundref". ORCID, which already pulls metadata from CrossRef, can then link CRs to ORCIDs, which means the orcid system becomes queriable for not only “which dois did this particular orcid have a role in creating” but also, then “what contributiion did this orcid make to this particular doi?”

We are working on a JATS integration, which I'm told is fairly straightforward.

Jeff/Laura - can you shed any light on this integration? I recall it being mentioned at JATScon but cannot find in my notes which session it was in!

An update on the status of the CRediT taxonomy: It's currently under review by the JATS Standing Committee. No firm details or timeline yet as to if/when it will be approved. That said, I would expect more movement on this in the coming months.
