I think it may be related to the resizing of the photos that the browser is doing to make them all consistently sized at the size we want. I suspect if the photos are sized in Photoshop to be the size we want without the browser having to make adjustments that things would look better. Doing this pre processing in Photoshop is a tedious, manual process and has to be repeated any time you want to change the size of a photo, but it enables browsers to show photos natively without making any changes to them that could. In any case, perhaps we could ask the guy to look at the size of the photos we have on there now and deliver us photos of that size...Or do it ourselves as part of the future site.
May I put the photographer in touch with you to determine the best course of action? And is this something we can/should discuss with Vera on Wednesday? Should we develop design guidelines so that we submit photos of a certain size. Or create templates that accommodate images of a standard size.
Yes you can put him in touch. Vera may have thoughts on Wed as well
Best,

Sounds good. Photographer's name is Steve Castillo. I'll give him your email address. And will put on the agenda for Weds with Vera.
Further investigation reveals that the distortion of downsized images is a known issue in IE 9 and multiple Firefox versions. Both issues are on the fix list, but have been for a while, so our best workaround is having the images in the size we want natively. This will also speed up page loading as we won't have to load the full sized photo. If we want to make a full size photo available for download, we can provide a link on the profile page.
Ok, so sounds like we are on the right track for now by having Steve do the workaround. He thinks he can have this done by Tues. A link on the profile page - or the media page - is a good way to make usable photos available. Going forward, we can make image compatibility the responsibility of the web editor so that visual content comes to you in a usable format.
Many thanks, nm

The images are sized correctly, but the quality is not as good as our originals. The photographer recomments running the photos through an unsharp mask in Photoshop. Is this something you can do? If not, we can send the photos to him; he will run the program, and send back to us.
