There seemed to be an issue with the UTF formatting of the £ sign in the number formatters. Explicitly stating the formatiting with the Encoding function seems to have fixed the issue

There is also an issue of the plot captions overrunning the space when using the wsj theme. should decouple the plot size with the text for now.
