I like Waymarked Trails and FootPathMap, because they show an entire trail with it's official name.

I like Komoot's additional features like bus stops and so on.

I'd like to build a product that combines both of these features, where you can plan to walk a section of a long trail, but also get information on hotels/public transport/picnic spots along/near to the trail.

I'd also like to be able to set up way points based on distance.

Needs further investigation, but based on their description, this product may be closest to the kind of product I'd like to build:

"You can ask for a map that is close to a specific place. You can also ask for transport stops (such as bus stops) to be added to the map. The web site also has details about how [...] you can build a route for a walk, run, etc., by selecting several rights of way and then outputting this route in KML or GPX."
