They don't seem to be used in the generated graph...

Nop, they were used before metadata support was added. Now, they are parsed but not used.

So shouldn't we probably eliminate them? (It's very likely that we didn't use them before either)

They were used before to create the sub-indexes of Type menu. Anyway, they could be deleted, though they make the type-graph file more readable.

Then they should be probably documented as comments...
