Depending on your Android kernel, the "home" button is considered a security
issue and cannot be emulated by software. In other words, unless you change
your ROM, you will not be able to send "Home" keypresses from anything but the
physical button.

I assign the button to do other things like open an application or music app
and it doesn't work still, is the problem the same or are they placeholders
with no code behind it?

I have not tried those buttons. They are defined by Android, but what they
actually do may be up to the vendor (Asus in this case).
