Hide note vs. Hide conversation? #8

Someone posted this on Noiys:

DearSausage would it be possible to have two types of "hide"?

Wontfix tag added until a case has been made for the new feature.

I'm the one who originally suggested this. I'm not sure how to make a case for it, but it's something I still want, and that others have independently asked for, e.g. today:

I wonder if there could be a feature that hides responses to already hidden messages. If I've hidden a messages parent I don't want to see its children

The logic here is that responses to uninteresting topics are likely to also be uninteresting. Being able to hide a note and all its children would massively improve the signal to noiys ratio (see what I did there?). Currently if two people are having a long conversation about something you're not interested in, you have to hide each individual thing they say, and its probably as easy to scroll past it. For this reason I tend to forget that the hide button exists, since it doesn't do much. It doesn't stop you having to scroll through future irrelevant posts. But a "hide this note and all future children" I would use that all the time!

I've placed a bounty on this.
