I'm testing the method now, here will be all the commits to make it more workable.

Ok, I've gone through the instructions today on my Dad's computer and modified some corners accordingly. Coming to @donmelton 's question of whether the slow visual console print affects the transcoding speeds - probably not as you see the file growing while it is still printing the general info output (I would have assumed that it wouldn't write to the file before finishing the general info at the beginning IF it were to be held up by the output).

This method is really really beautiful as updating it is super easy. Maybe we should add a notice on how to update the setup.

well, I've specifically checked for the existence of a .bash_profile and there was none existing. What I didn't check is whether it was included in .bashrc to be loaded IF it exists, but I think it's easiest to output to .bashrc.
