Not exactly optimizations, just a little bit of de-consumption. This does the following:

Screen wipe effect. Needs allocated memory to perform, but once done, no need to hold it as a purgable hostage.
Screen border. Mostly the same as above.

But in the end all this is a matter of 2-15 megabytes, depending on the rendering resolution.
