The @LBNLphysics laid the foundation of mondern particle physics, with the invention of the cyclotron, by the namegiver Ernest Lawrence. Part of his team were two young men, Robert Oppenheimer and Robert Wilson, who later founded Los Alamos Laboratory and Fermilab respectively. Notable discoveries are the antiproton, which was first experimentally cofirmed by the Bevatron particle accelerator, and the acceleration of the universe. The latter was discovered by two independent projects, one of them, the Supernova Cosmology Project, was a project at LBNL.
