FYI - works with NodeMCU D1 Mini 12e (esp8266) in Arduino

I just used pins such as D5, D6 instead of 5 and 6. And just hooked the sensor up to 5v and ground from another source, ignoring pin 4 and 7.

you mean you attached the echo pin to the nodemcu with no voltage divider? no dead pins yet?
