Hi, that is indeed a good idea. JabRef can import various formats etc already, however, its unfortunately not yet documented. You are right, zip files are not supported. Often the easiest solution is to export to bib/RIS and import that into JabRef. If you don't select a specific import, JabRef will try to guess the importer and try several ones
https://docs.jabref.org/collect/import needs improvement.
Regarding handling of files: https://docs.jabref.org/finding-sorting-and-cleaning-entries/filelinks
I just tried to import from Zotero.
Zotero support export to bibtex that will include ALL files in a single folder relative to the exported bib file. Also, the path written in the bib file is relative too.
Jabref can handle it without any fraction (assuming "Search and store files relative to library file location" enabled)
However, grouping/filetree will be lost!
I find a pretty popular 3rd plugin of zotero that can export jabref related grouping info.
Then just select all entries -> quality -> clean up entries -> move files to location to relocate files
This probably worth a page at https://docs.jabref.org/collect/import
I seriously tried to fully migrate to jabref with the method mentioned above, but I failed. I don't think it is practical for a very large library.
Some concepts don't connect between zotero and jabref in subtle ways. Not all data will be exported.
Also there is a bug when moving multiple files of the same entry to the jabref's folder (through the Quality -> Entry cleanup). They cannot be reliably copied, but i run out of time to give exact reproduce steps.
Is your suggestion for improvement related to a problem? Please describe. Migrating to/from JabRef from/to Zotero, Mendeley, Qiqqa can be very cumbersome with enough groups/folders/tags in whichever of the platforms.
Describe the solution you'd like Implement any needed basic functionality for migrating common feature sets in an easy-to-write format.
https://discourse.jabref.org/t/migrate-mendeley-folders-into-jabref-subgroups/2007
Then document the steps needed to construct those migration files from a number of popular alternative software (e.g. Zotero, Mendeley).
For Mendeley, will probably need a custom module for the migration :/ Not sure about Zotero.
Additional context The current "Import" dialog doesn't require any specific file types, but does not seem to support Mendeley zip backups. I'm guessing it supports only .bib files. Should make that clearer.
