53 removed the ability to use the wide-format for covariate data entirely (I have re-added this as a deprecated feature) in favor for long-format covariate data. It seems like both formats yield near-identical results, and since there is already code for both it seems there is little/no reason not to implement them alongside one another, unless I missed something @Jack-H-Buckner ?
