idea: change server from windows to linux-based

basically what it says on the fuckin tin, move the bot from a windows server to a linux server.

Pros:

• faster! probably
• cheaper! probably (not paying for the windows license on top of the hosting service)
• less resources (storage/cpu/ram) used by the OS itself means more for the bot

Cons:

• jack: you have to learn an entirely new skillset with somewhat of a learning curve
• possibly have to change some of the code, although testing this on a local machine (with linux) doesnt have this issue

lmk what you think, or just straight up close the issue if you are like "absolutely not" because i know you have been "absolutely not" in the past. wanted to see if your opinion changed ;)

the bot should already work fine on linux systems. this was done as part of opening up the bot for collaboration so devs using linux didn't have a headache trying to get the bot set up in their environments.

however, im still not interested in switching to linux since the bot already works fine on the windows server we use already. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." etc etc. the bot already works fine as-is. switching to linux now is just another headache on top of other more important projects. besides, my technical knowledge is mainly with windows. i wouldn't know how to fix a problem on linux if it was something outside of the bots control.

that being said, the idea of lowering host cost is intriguing though, and it may be a necessity in the future if the bot gets big enough. i'd have to see what the difference is though, and i want to see what it's like using a linux server as opposed to windows. my main concern is remote access. i WILL NOT learn to use a terminal just to do basic shit like navigating folders and files.

and that's fine because there are GUI programs that do exactly that, namely Filezilla. It doesn't have to be you that manages the server either, it can be us

im sorry but this is gonna be a hard no. im uncomfortable enough switching to a completely different operating system for the host server, giving someone else access on top of that is even worse.
