WIFI issues #77

Despite using your magnificent script I'm still having issues with wifi card. From time to time the connection is lost. The only way I can fix that then is to reconnect or restart network-manager.

Does anyone have similar issues? Any idea what's the cause and how to fix that?

Never experienced this issue. At home I connect through 5Ghz network, with channel set to 48 and 80Mhz of channel width.

I doubt it has something with wifi parameters. I can connect 4 different devices and everything works fine.

Dell support suggests all issues with killer wifi has been fixed by upgrading bios but apparently that's not the case here as I have the latest.

I seems I have similar problems. I see no clear pattern, but I lose wifi connection from time to time to. Bios should also be updated to last version. I am connected to 5 Ghz network, channel 124 and 80mhz, if this information helps.

I also experience issues with wireless. For me, it is even worse in that sometimes the network-manager hangs during a systemctl restart (only solution is a reboot). I experience this only when connected to a eduroam ap with lots of users. At home, it also randomly disconnects but then there is no need for a reboot. I now use wicd instead of network-manager and I believe it is a bit more stable.

I also get random disconnects and hangs at my home wifi (but not at work)

There is a high chance that it is related to WiFi card. Replace it with Intel 9260.

So it looks like it's mostly a kernel related thing. Anyway I never experienced this issue with 19.04 either, running a 5.0 kernel. The only thing I could suggest is to update the kernel and see what happens.

It's running perfectly with Ubuntu 19.04 (Cosmic), I think that if you don't have some complains anymore, you can close this issue.

I am still having the issue with resume from suspend with missing wifi and bluetooth and im running 19.04 ubuntu witht the JackHack script on a 2019 XPS 9570 . I also tried replacing the killer wifi card with the intel 9260 but still having the issue.

I ran into this issue on 18.04 with the Killer N1535 Wireless as well. It seems to only happens on certain routers, but the firmware was very consistently crashing on a Linksys WRT1200AC. I found this bug report that mentions these instructions on Dell's site for manually updating the firmware. These were the english version of the instructions that @JackHack96 mentioned above.

I had gone almost a full day without the firmware crashing (it was crashing every 20 mins or so previously), but it just happened again after almost a full day. I will update if it seems like the firmware update actually helped or if it was just a fluke that it hadn't crashed as often.

The wifi firmware is still regularly crashing with the updated version on Ubuntu 18.04 with a Linksys WRT1200AC router. I will probably update to Ubuntu 19.10 since it sounds like that has resolved the issue for others.

I'm having this issue with Ubuntu 19.10. I managed to fix it somehow in 19.04, but then I upgraded... It seems that this is very difficult to fix "simply".

I seem to have had quite some success (no wifi-induced restarts this past month) by downgrading my firmware. This discussion linked in the archlinux wiki link above was helpful. Basically,

  1. Find your firmware with lspci | grep Network, in my case it is Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174
  2. Make a backup of the appropriate directory, in my case cp -R /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0 /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0.bak
  3. Rename the newer firmware so that the system uses an older firmware as a fallback; in my case mv /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-6.bin /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-6.bin.bak

I still do have the occasional wifi disconnects problem, which seems to resolve on its own after a wifi restart, but I feel at much peace since the system itself does not hang.
