I have just bought a new Router NETGEAR Nighthawk R7000 (v1.0.9.88), and I have attempted to flash it with the the initial file, but it is not accepting the file;
Steps taken as follow:
Login to router>"Advanced" tab>Administration>Router Update>Browse>Upload>OK.
I browse to the .chk file and choose "tomato-R7000-1.28.AT-ARM-3.5-140-initial-64k.chk". As soon as I click on "upload" and "OK", I get error message:
"Failure
The firmware is not compatible with your router. Error Code -2."
I even tried to downgrade it to 3 or 4 previous versions of Netgear firmwares without any luck.
Furthermore, I tried other versions of tomato initial files, and is still not accepting it.
Seems like Netgear started to block the installation of custom firmware ... I didn't try myself but this video is explaining the procedure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUZouixjko0. I hope it helps

Your efforts in this manner are very appreciated.
