Noto Color emoji feedback from IMDB integration

1. Consistent feedback theme: the emoji are too “cutesy” and look like 
“Helly Kitty”.

2. Consistent feedback theme: the faces (smileys) look odd.  “Demented 
seals”, “melted Simpsons characters”, “looks like ‘Dots’ 
(candy)”.  Designers at IMDb comment that relative to Apple and Twitter 
artwork, the Noto ones have bodies and are inconsistently looking sideways or 
straight ahead.  The impression is that devoting less of the available space to 
a consistent facial expression makes it more difficult to comprehend.

3. The Noto emoji are wider than they are tall; the other emoji sets are square.

4. The other emoji sets are mostly drawn in a “ligna claire” artistic style 
– the Noto emoji (particularly the smileys) are more solid blocks of color 
without lines – or where there are lines, they are fatter.  My personal 
opinion is that when scaled down the Noto emoji become less crisp and harder to 
comprehend.

The Unicode Consortium specifically addresses the issue of whether emoji 
characters need to look the same everywhere:

TL;DR: they don't, but must convey the same concept.

I don't believe that's accurate.  There are a (relatively) small number of 
users of the IMDb message boards who have expressed dislike for the Noto emoji 
we recently installed, however these objections are likely influenced by our 
simultaneous retirement of older, non-Unicode-compatible smileys.  The vast 
majority of IMDb users either haven't expressed an opinion or are happily using 
the Noto emoji.

Regardless: this is not the appropriate forum to have a discussion about IMDb's 
policy or website.  This is specifically for feedback on the Noto color emoji, 
which IMHO should and largely do adhere to the Unicode standards.

Here's one example where Noto color emoji doesn't adhere to the Unicode 
guidelines:

The emoji at IMDB called "Yellow Heart" is, in fact, not yellow at all. It is 
pink and looks like it needs to shave.

Hello,

Upon recommendation from "muzzle" IMDB Staff Member from Seattle, I am adding 
my observations and feedback regarding the new IMDB emoji size and style:

Smaller is preferred over the larger ones, but size is not the only problem. 

1 - large or small, some of them are not very sharp (lines are 'fuzzy') 
2 - some have a bit of a background blob of color which is probably why the 
lines of the emoji is splotchy. 
For instance, what's with the blue shadowy color under and around the elephant? 
Also, I'm guessing, but is the emoji at the end of the last sentence a mouse?? 
Weird. Just plain weird. 
3 - The smiley faces (and several others) all have extra blob of color around 
them...like a shadow. Not good. 
4 - Red outline around the hand/finger emoji. Why?? 
5 - Upon further examination, these work much better on smartphone text 
messages than here, especially since for YEARS, members have gotten accustomed 
to the original/previous emoticons. 
6 - Animation?? Anyone? Bueller…Bueller?? 
7 - Finally, my guess is that most people here won't use them. But, if the do, 
it will take quite a while. 

These (the new emoticons) all look more like a very cheap version of the emoji 
available on my cell phone. Any chance that there are other emoticons available 
that are similar to the ones that everyone loves, and that IMDB can be licensed 
to use?
