So as I was browsing through the mod's curseforge page's comments, I saw a comment that asked about the days slowly getting darker as the apocalypse progresses:
And I think the best way this could possibly be achieved is to make a custom weather event that triggers on a specific day which gets darker over time, this weather event would of course be permanent and it'd essentially be similar to snow fall/rain albeit without the rain/snow fall and the sun would still be visible.

Alternatively, perhaps there could be a config option added to the mod that enables the feature for the days to get darker over time, granted this option would be turned off by default to prevent compatibility issues with other mods that modify the sky light.
