Citrix Cloud and AVD - Absolute Fluff

Demystifying the cringe inducing fluff associated with Citrix Cloud and Microsoft AVD

James, thanks for this great article. One correction: We have thousands of IGEL devices running DaaS desktops from the Citrix Cloud.

The first time I on-boarded a client to Citrix Cloud, I wasted a good deal of time trying to figure out how to integrate the two, as it seemed weird that Citrix Cloud would broker connections to AVD (which already has a broker) since AVD is exclusively RDP and doesn't support HDX. I eventually gave up that fruitless pursuit and instead used the "full configuration" method in Citrix Cloud to deploy machine catalogs, delivery groups, etc. What a stupidly confusing decision Citrix marketing made to try to BS people into thinking that Citrix Cloud - in any way, shape, or form - "extends" or "enhances" AVD! As you've stated, it's a completely separate stack.

I suspect that Citrix has spewed this BS because they have lost customers to Nerdio, who do in fact extend and enhance AVD via automation and simplification of the deployment steps. Nerdio's solution is brilliant in its execution and simplicity, it's just too bad that RDP still sucks for remoting YouTube and other video compared to Citrix DaaS - same goes for anything 3D. Honestly, it's pretty much the only "must have" feature left in the Citrix HDX stack compared to RDP in its current state. If RDP ever gains full parity with the HDX stack, Citrix is in big trouble...

Also, I've asked repeatedly for Citrix to at least implement the "per-user access pricing" ADV feature, which they have promised but not delivered on for months. I've given up on that hope at this point, I don't think it will ever happen.
