Add annotations to code #5

Those changes are made on top of #3, so looking at diff with master can be misleading.

I added type annotations to code, which highlights few areas to improve in next steps.

The reliance on the the other pull means this won't merge automatically so I've cherry picked the annotations commit into master 4cc16fc97f05add3d1c5741a2025a837d327f54e
