Some questions #23

Hi Jan, I have some questions:

  1. Why is there a large capacitor(1000uF) on the control board ?
  2. I know the resistance of the soldering iron tip is 3 ohms, the current of soldering iron is 20V/3Ω=6.67A, Will it cause the PD power supply to enter the OVP state ? Thanks.😀

Hey! The caps purpose is to smooth out the current spikes to prevent an OVP state. This isn't an elegant solution nor does it work well. A buck topology can be implemented by assembling L1, however I never did that. :D

OK and thanks for your answer.
