After a very constructive discussion with @bogovicj, I re-structured the collections of fundamental definitions. In particular, I:

grouped definitions into basic and derived definitions;
changed highlighting from quotes to italics;
added a "related terms" line for many definitions and cross-linked relevant terms;
did some minor clean-up and improvements.
