Using mirror modelling, with an element that has 2 faces sharing a single vertex in the middle.
Moving away from the middle this vertex creates/preserves an additional face on one side.
(The symmetrical faces should split off imo, I don't see much use in keeping an isolated edge connecting them)

What are you trying to do, and what do you expect to happen?
