Inactivity regarding players and their properties #1263

Closed Primetime92 closed 4 years ago

Primetime92 commented 4 years ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Yes, most of properties are sold and unavailable to new players.

Describe the feature you'd like Properties would go vacant after a defined period of time (perhaps 2 months) of unactivity of a character. This way new players have an opportunity to buy or rent more properties due to an increase in availability. Inactive people are owning properties which could be of use to another more active player. If a player would have to leave or become inactive for a period of time, this player would have to inform the staff of his inactivity if he wishes to preserve his ownings.

Describe alternatives you've considered N/A

Additional context N/A

I agree, I think it would be good to establish a middle ground between inactive players to then moving of removal of assets. On the other hand these players have put their money into property so technically it is their property and we cannot do anything about that. Suggestions people?

i dont agree. Since it's an RP server, as in real life, could you obtain somebody's property if he/she wasnt using it for a couple months, or would that person just lose the property for not using it? you can't, so i think that it shouldnt be possible here either. Plus, there are resets every now and then, so everybody starts anew anyway, and all the properties become available again.

I agree too, IRL when people leave houses unattended and property taxes rise up the government can and will repossess those houses, so why can't we, Yes I understand that people bought their houses but if they are gonna be inactive and play on a different server, why should the ones that are on the server and active have to suffer. There are hundreds of houses on the server and a lot of them are taken up by people who have decided they are never coming back yet they still own it hindering others from purchasing said houses.

Wipes happen, property shouldn't be taken from a player without their consent. If someone wants a specific property of which is already owned perhaps they can approach d8 to contact the owner and if they would like to sell. Also get a ball park figure of their asking price etc.

Are there specific properties you are looking for @Primetime92 ?

Choppa25 commented 4 years ago

Realistically, if the property is owned by somebody, you can’t evict them for not showing up.

But this is a game. Would you rather make available a house for a new player to buy, or let the owner, which is inactive for 3+ months, still have it.

I think a number of 3 months is decent. I myself took a break of that much more or less, and to be honest, if my property would be gone when I came back, I wouldnt even be mad. I didnt even remember what cars I had, lol.

Maybe try to reach to the owner on discord, to pass the property to a friend..

Primetime92 commented 4 years ago

I'm not looking for any specific properties, a property that I can afford would be my answer and I feel like those are already all taken. I understand that I'm not the only player on the server here and that players have the right to purchase several houses too.

I think the important part is:

If a player would have to leave or become inactive for a period of time, this player would have to inform the staff of his inactivity if he wishes to preserve his ownings.

Should be left as is, the players have invested their time into the server and have bought the property. I get that it can be frustrating but there are enough of each property type to go around.

Imagine not playing for a couple of months coming back and finding that your house has essentially been deleted and all the contents lost, that’s hardly welcoming. People will go straight to staff and complain or just not bother playing as some of their progress has been erased.

when people leave houses unattended and property taxes rise up the government can and will repossess those houses

This would work if everyone paid a property tax, which they don’t so it would cause an imbalance.

If there is a specific property you are interested in then get in contact with a Dynasty8 Agent as they will be able to find they owner and RP putting in an enquiring for you - there is no harm in asking.

Overall leave it as it is, if people leave the server then it is up to them what they do. Not for staff to go around chasing people.

@Primetime92 Have you even looked at the d8 listings? You also know that you can just request for a vacant property to be valued, it doesn't have to already be listed. I can see there is a property up there for under 50k which is easy to grind in less than a day. How long have you played on the server?

Psyanine commented 4 years ago

Also we have to bare in mind regarding property tax etc that it's vital to strike a comfortable balance to real life finances / obligations and quality game mechanics / features. People don't play roleplay to be exactly like in real life. Imagine if you had to file taxes for all your g6 shifts you've done this wipe, or having to find a store open at 3am because you have a mad craving for cereal. It might be realistic but it doesn't mean it contributes to fun roleplay or server environment.

Some kind of 'tax' will come at some point, but I'm not sure how exactly that would work in terms of their house being taken from them, they did spend the money. Not to mention, there's tonnes of houses available.
