Player Owned Businesses or Bartender Ability #1661

Allowing players with enough time on server to open one of the plethora of businesses available around the City [There are lots of businesses and opportunities for players and groups to start companies and run them as an alternative to grind jobs or white list jobs. This is the first city I have played in that does not allow groups and players to open their own industries. From brewing, bars/clubs, mechanic shops, restaurants, small shops, pawn shops and the list goes on. There are so many businesses in Los Santos and I feel we really could use those to help players and groups find themselves more in this universe. AT THE BARE MINIMUM it would be nice to see players be able to pick up a “bartender skill” to work at one of the many bars not owned by a whitelist to be able to sell drinks that aren’t beer or vodka and make some decent role play for themselves.]

Applying for a business [Allow players with a minimum of I’d say 200 hours to apply for a business in the city. Have them get charged every week for rent of the property, giving them a reason to invest time into it and run it. I would allow players to go through a D8 agent to give them another set of property to be showing around and more work they could be used for. Players would have to pitch their business idea and wait for acceptance after working with the D8 agent. There’s groups that could use businesses as legal fronts or hang outs. They probably will have competition but that allows for much more Roleplay. It would be nice to get away from focusing on a script grind and building something as a team you can be proud of. That team can be anything from Gangs, groups of friends, to a solo individual who hires employees and gets roleplay as a business owner.]

Bartender [While not an amazing alternative to having player owned businesses, this would provide the ability to go into one of the many scripted bars and work. Allowing players to offer different drinks and actually make some money off tending a bar. It would also give the ability to venture around the map to different clubs as long as a bartender is there. It doesn’t need to be an announced job as someone can simply use Twitter and word of mouth to get players there, or the new event system.]

This is a very possible common feature among other cities [Player Owned Businesses are amazing and adds great RP to so many servers. It gives characters something to think about beyond grinding the highest paying job, or loitering in Legion Square when there is nothing going on. It can very much open the map up to having more things to do and places to go. I have been in the city for a while now and each week I see this as something that would benefit the server more and more.]

This is actually something that I would LOVE to be implemented into the city, as I am very fond of Smoke on the Water. I use it's product to help build connections with people as well as break the ice, and promote the store. I think owning the business and even being able to sponsor player driven events such VU, Brawlers Club, City allowed races, etc, would be awesome. Gaining access to Smoke on the water Livery's for the Runpo, or even as being owner, having keys to the one's that are parked around the city and being able to fill them up and drive them to events would be an awesome RP experience.

I 100% agree with you here, however, this IS currently possible in the city but it isn't easy to get into and requires a lot of work and effort putting in to it. You can acquire the necessary licenses and permits for certain businesses in the city by RPing it out with a lawyer and setting up the foundations of a business. The issue at the moment is there is no framework for everyone to go about this and requires a lot of planning with little guidance along the way.

To add to what you have already said, I would love to see some way to apply for a business and like you said, it should have a minimum hour requirement, eg, 200-300 hours minimum so that it is clear you are committed to the city.

When I asked D8 about the business I was interested in I was told this was not possible. There was no "You need to do X-Y-Z first", just flat no. Best I could do was buy an adjacent property and try to RP it out myself.

It depends really, best thing to do at the moment is to speak to D8 agents and Lawyers back and forth until you have a solid business plan. The rest is all down to RP and having the skills needed to communicate and persuade people that the idea you have is a good idea.

FWIW some places do require bartender licenses IRL

Thinking about this again, I've noticed the RP businesses are basically VAR or services. People can buy existing bars & restaurants through RP now, or provide tours or security. What I suggest is a more generic office property for D8. These could be attached to a spare bar or restaurant door, but would provide the same sort of functions useful to any business owner:

I think any combination of those would be a big help. Even an office interior for basic storage and RP would be useful.

Being able to generate a product (brew beer, hatch bait etc) using different purchased equipment to install (like other stuff) would be a lot of fun.

Was this implemented at all? Just found it and it relates to a feature request I submitted this afternoon

Dyn8 and Lawyers offer RP means to rent and operate out of businesses - Dyn8 also are auctioning off a Tequila la la as a player owned soft whitelist as a trial.
