Fishing Overhaul #205

Describe the current reason for this balance request A clear and concise description of what currently happens and why this is unfair/unbalanced.

Currently fishing is very profitable if done right. My current issue with fishing is that it can get very bland very quickly. I love to fish in any game, but there are always little details that keep me hooked. These little details may be the size of the fish, or even fish that are collectable in some way. Part of the other appeal to fishing in other games is equipment. Currently there is only one fishing rod, I would like to be able to purchase better rods. Basically, I would like to see an expansion to fishing to make it more of a fanatical hobby rather than this washed down money making version.

Describe the solution you'd like A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.

What I would like to see happen with fishing is beyond even the small details of fish and equipment. I would like to see the ability to get better at fishing the more you do it. Since with everything in life, practice makes perfect. Currently, there is not really a skill based mini game or something that makes fishing seem skillful. So, my suggestion would be to add the ability to get better at fishing overtime. Just like jobs how they have a level, fishing would also get the same treatment. The more you fish and the more you catch new and interesting fish your ability with a fishing rod and knowledge on when to reel and when not to increases. This could increase the catch rate towards more rare and exotic fish or simply just increase the overall catch rate slightly. With this change alongside equipment, this would increase the overall quantity of fish into the system. I would suggest reducing the value of fish while increasing the limit of fish in your inventory.

I would also like to see equipment for boats, and the ability to have a ship go out and collect massive amounts of fish with huge nets for selling purposes or even go whaling illegally! This could be a job opportunity and you would make some sort of sell in bulk kind of offer. I think that fishing is just undertuned and has a lot of potential as a real time self made job in HighLife!

Thanks for taking the time in reading this, I still enjoy fishing right now, and by no means is this something that will deter me from playing. I love HighLife and all the work put into it. :)

If the same minigame from Stardew Valley was implemented I wouldn't be able to stop fishing long enough to do anything else.

Or even a minecraft type of fishing, they are both very similar. Right now its just pull fishing rod out, move every now and then to avoid afk kick, wait for bait depletion, rinse and repeat. Very straight forward; too straight forward. I think its safe to say something needs to be added to make it a bit more interesting. :)

Did read about an 'advanced fishing' system somewhere. One interesting point was catching illegal animals such as turtles and whales/stingrays. You would catch a turtle with the simple bait available right now and then carve that turtle with your knife to use as bait for whales. Illegal fish can only be sold for dirty money at a secret location (similar to drug locations).

Cool idea might be a fishingrod you can only obtain by fishing. It would have a very very small drop chance, this fishing rod will have like a 10% not to consume bait. After obtaining this rod you can decide to keep it or sell it to other players.

[EDIT] I though about it and it does not really make sense finding a random OP fishingrod in the sea. you could however obtain it though the fishmonger as a sort of reward for how much money you make him. this would makes more sense.

Well in all fairness in real life the fish tend to bite in certain spots at certain times, im sure there should be an algorithm to keep it kinda random and periodically change. Finding a nice hotspot for fishing would be pretty awesome so that you can catch a lot of fish. Adds a little exploration and adventure!

This seems like a massive undertaking, but it would make me very happy. I love drinking beer and fishing. You meet new people on the docks, share spots, etc. Heck, sometimes you even help stop them from being robbed by hooligans.

But fishing in its current state is mostly just afking, so any changes that help alleviate that I'm on board with.

I definitely agree. My suggestion would be to add more fish, add weight and rarity to the fish, and make the best fishing spots further out into the ocean.

The rarer the fish the better the price, just as it is now with trout and rainbow trout. Adjust price according to the weight as well. The heavier weight being really rare but worth a lot more.

By making the best fishing spots out in the ocean will put boats into actual use. Also, casual fishers can still fish out by docks but hardcore fishers will need to put in work and effort and swim out to see.

A cool idea would be to have at ultra rare fish right before a tsunami xD. Maybe 5 minutes before server reset.

Really good concept. Definitely needs an overhaul. To what extent and what’s possible might vary.
