What happened?

Over the last few weeks we've been experiencing a lot of issues with server freezing and then catching up. I assume it is some sort of connection problems.

Not too sure how exactly help debug this, but it does happen probably around twice an hour and leads to lots of PD pursuits being lost and overall inconvenience for players. Let us know how we can help and we obviously will.

Video of what it looks like - https://youtu.be/hIqT7sIhJEI

Expected result

No freezes

Reproduction steps

  1. Prolonged sessions - Most noticeable during pursuits
  2. Vehicles start all driving in the exact direction
  3. Server-client catches/syncs up and the suspects are gone

Importancy

Medium

Nothing really that can be done from having ticket open. I’m always looking out for performance improvements and issues such as this, only it’s difficult to track down and most likely will go away once the wipe occurs - what is specifically causing this I’m unsure right now.

Wrote it mostly for awareness sake. I forgot to mention but during these freezes, voice chat and radios work completely fine. It seems very strange.

What happens if/when the issue reoccurs after wipe? I feel like it shouldn't be swept under the rug at this time.

How do you figure this is being "swept under the rug"?

HighLife has hundreds of individual systems that have a multitude of functions at varying technical reach/scope, there isn't a simple way to determine the root cause of why this happens.

As I said:

I've been looking into these performance issues for the last 3 months and still are, I'm unable to fathom how you think I'd want to just ignore this issue.

This ticket doesn't state what the problem is, only the problem exists of which I'm already aware of. No point for this ticket to be open.

Ask yourself this instead: are we pushing the capability of a modification for a 11 year old game? Probably.

There are plenty of servers with similar (if not more) resources than HighLife. yet I don't think they're experiencing these type of issues.

However, your reply now is more reassuring, before it sounded like you were relying on the wipe to sort of 'fix it'.

The numbers of resources does not in any way correlate to the size of a server. If highlife was split into separate resources we’d have over 1200. HighLife core and its features are rolled into a single codebase for performance and OOP practices.
