'Timing' option doens't work properly #288

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Load any rom
2.Change 'Timing' from NTSC to PAL
3.The game still runs at the same speed. You need to reload the rom (reset
doesn't solve the problem) to play in PAL mode.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The game should slow down when played on PAL timing.

Does this issue occur on FCE Ultra for Windows?
I don't know.

What version are you using? On GameCube or Wii?
Wii version 3.1.8

Are you using the official build (from the downloads page or auto-update)?
Just downloaded from this website.

Please provide any additional information below.
In previous versions you don't need to reload the rom for the video modes to
work. It's an issue that only happens in 3.1.7 and onwards.

I reported this in the previous version 3.1.7 but mistook the name of the
option (said it was 'Video mode'). I think you didn't see my correction so I
started a new issue.

Thanks

by the way, if you have it set on Automatic you can change from NTSC <> PAL in
the game no problem

Just out of curiosity... what is the purpose of running NTSC games in PAL speed
or viceversa?

I always keep the timing in Automatic, since I want NTSC games to run NTSC
speed and PAL games at PAL speed.

If Automatic option keeps proving to work fine, and there is no real use to
change the timing manually, this option could even be removed from the settings
to simplify the interface and configuration of the emulator.

Just a thought...

Unfortunately for the iNES format there's no way to determine if a ROM is NTSC
or PAL. FCEUX's 'automatic' setting uses the crude method of looking for (E) or
(U) at the end of the filename, and assumes NTSC when there is none.

Oh, I see now. Thanks for answering. Since I have renamed all my ROMs using
goodNES, they all have the correct tag (U) or (E) in their filename, so I had
never noticed what you mention since they are always run at the correct timing
speed.

It's a shame this kind of information is not included in the iNES header.

Regards,
