Mega Man I - badly flickering background (2.0.0) #96

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Load VBA GX 2.0.0
2. Choose Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge rom
3. Choose any stage and notice the background flickering

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
In each of the four opening stages, everything except the character
sprites (Mega Man and enemies) badly flickers between black and white
colors. The flickering stops when I pause the game (Start button).

This game played perfectly fine in 1.0.9, the last version I used prior to
upgrading.

Does this issue occur on VBA-M r781 (http://vba-m.ngemu.com/vbam/
vbacompiles/msvc2008/VisualBoyAdvance781.7z)? If so, please report the
issue to the VBA-M forum.

What version of the product are you using? On GameCube or Wii?
Wii.

Please provide any additional information below.
The only adjustments I made in Game Settings were zoom to 80% (by the way,
I can't seem to change the zoom with the right stick on the Classic
Controller anymore) and Unfiltered video.

I havn't had much time to play around with things yet, but just wanted to add
this
issue does not occur on vba-m r781. I'll check some more when I get some wii
time,
but one of the project members might get around to it first.

I had a little time to actually try the issue out myself.

ROM: Megaman - Dr. Wily's Revenge (U) [!]
VBAGX v: rev213 and rev217

As xcinder said the game screen flickers between white and black constantly. I
tried
both NTSC video modes and also disabling the built in color palettes and it is
still
an issue. Also tried filtered/unfiltered.

Just wanted to give you guys all the results.

Just want to update, this glitch still happens in 2.0.1. You might also want to
look
at issue 102. Another defect I reported may be related to this.

It only seems to affect this game, and only when colorize is turned on.

Strangely, the issue only affects the top part of the screen. The bottom part
of the
screen doesn't flash at all. Even though they are both using the "BG" palette
(not
the WINDOW palette that status bars normally use).

Also it only affects the in-game background, the menu is fine.

For now the work-around is to play it in Black & White.

"fixed" by disabling palettes for Megaman 1.
